Pomegranate

Pomegranate

ざくろ

Pomegranate (zakuro) is regarded as an auspicious fruit symbolizing abundance and prosperity, and in Buddhism it is known as a “fruit of good fortune.” The Japanese expression beni-itten—referring to a single woman among many men—originates from classical poetry praising the beauty of the pomegranate flower. Pomegranates are also associated with Kishimojin, a Buddhist deity, and are believed to symbolize safe childbirth and the flourishing of future generations.
